LINE OVER: With a ramair, a brake lock may release during opening allowing one side of the canopy to surge forward over itself. The canopy will be developing a spin, and will be dropping faster with less forward drive.
With round parachutes, this malfunction normally results in minor canopy damage with a slightly higher rate of descent, and can increase oscillation. The line(s) will come over the top, pinching and distorting the canopy on one side and dividing it into two separate lobes. Since they have no reserves, round emergency jumpers should find the riser with the affected line, grab it, and try jerking it to the side, to pop the line off the canopy. If this does not work, round jumpers are provided hook blade knifes to cut the affected line above the riser strap. Trainees are taught to not saw lines back and forth across the canopy during any malfunction correction attempt, as the friction heat could cause severe damage to the canopy.are caused by the canopy surging.
Ramair jumpers, and round jumpers with a reserve, are taught to cutaway and pull the reserve.
